How To Make Unicorn Play Dough
Play-dough is an all time classic activity that children absolutely love to have fun with. It is super easy to make at home and we have created a really special recipe for you that has had a sprinkle of unicorn magic added to make it extra special for all you unicorn lovers!
What I love especially about this recipe is, you are likely to have nearly- if not all the ingredients at home already. It is a really inexpensive activity that children love to get involved in not only making- but then playing with it afterwards too!
There are lots of hidden benefits to learning when kids are playing with play dough making this one of the best activities for them to engage with. It is good for developing fine motor skills, it encourages creativity and imagination, its good for learning colours, and encourages patience and calmness.
This homemade recipe is really quick and easy to make and you can even involve your children throughout the whole process!
Homemade Unicorn Play Dough
Ingredients:
- ½ Cup of flour
- ¼ Cup of salt
- 1 Tablespoon of Vegetable Oil
- ½ Tablespoon Cream of Tartar
- ½ Cup of water
- Gel food colouring
- Glitter
- Optional aromatherapy oils
How to create your very own unicorn play dough
Step 1. Measure
Measure out your flour, salt, water, cream of tartar, and vegetable oil
Step 2. Mix
Place all ingredients into a saucepan and mix all together using a wooden spoon. Stir until they are all combined together to form a loose sticky paste
Step 3. Heat
Step 4. Add Colour
Remove your hot play dough from your saucepan and leave to cool
Once cool enough to handle you can then divide your play dough into the amounts you want for each colour (I usually divide this recipe for 2 colours)
Step 5. Add Glitter
Step 6. Mould
Step 7. Add Scent
An optional step is to add a couple of drops of scented aromatherapy oils to your play dough, this makes it smell delicious!
The same steps can be repeated with lots of different colours until you have as many colours as you want!
Be as creative and adventurous with colours and glitter as you like- this is the really fun part! Make sure you store the play-dough in an airtight container to stop it drying out!
